Surina Ann Jordan provided a compelling message to several hundred AME leaders at the Fifth Episcopal District's mid-year conference.
The theme of the conference was "Living Well". The objective of the conference was to identify an overall wellness strategy for improving  
the health and well being of the church. Jordan was tasked with  building a case for disease prevention and  good stewardship for
balanced lives.

A local author with a passion for changing the lives of cancer patients is adding value. Surina Ann Jordan was recently appointed to the
Delaware Cancer Consortium. Delaware ranks above the national average in cancer rates in several categories including colon cancer,
breast cancer and prostate cancer. The Governor of the first state, Ruth Ann Minner has commissioned this group to find out why and has
empowered them to make changes. Jordan serves on the Disparities Committee which is chaired by the Lieutenant Governor of
Delaware.
 

The Delaware Cancer Consortium was formed in March 2001 in response to Senate Joint Resolution 2 signed by Governor Ruth Ann Minner. This commission
was established to advise the governor and legislature on the causes of cancer incidence and mortality and potential methods for reducing both.

Dr. Surina Ann Jordan was appointed chair of the Committee. This
committee is a subcommittee of the Communication & Public Education
Committee. The purpose of the committee is to
coordinate and promote
cancer education
to the citizens, care-givers and health providers of the
State of Delaware. This committee will sponsor at least two educational
events each year and disseminate current cancer information on the
DCC
website.

Dr. Surina Ann Jordan was elected chair of the Maryland State
Advisory Council for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention. The
Council consists of 23 members appointed by the Governor.
The council is charged with coordinating an promoting
educational programs for the community that focus on
prevention, early detection, and treatment of heart disease and
stroke.

this program is designed to acknowledge and pay tribute to outstanding women and minority business owners in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia.
The awards ceremony will take place at the Inn and Conference Center at University of Maryland University College in Adelphi, Maryland on Sunday, November 15, 2009.

A panel of distinguished judges chose Zima Health from fourteen hundred nominations. Selection was based on Enterprenuers who demonstrated outstanding
achievement in four key areas: entrepreneurship, client satisfaction, professional and community contributions.



The 2008 Maryland General Assembly, House Bill 1176 established the Maryland Committee on Childhood Obesity as part of the Governor's Council on Heart Disease and
Stroke. The Committee was charged with studying childhood obesity and reporting to the Governor and the General Assembly on insurance reimbursements to health care
providers, a system for collecting, analyzing and maintaining statewide data, best and promising practices to address childhood obesity, methods to enhance public
awareness and methods to increase the rate of obesity screenings in children.

"Childhood Obesity is not just and issue of risk anymore, it is at the point of a public health emergency", said Jordan.

The Committee is mandated to provide recommendations to the Governor and Maryland General Assembly no later than December 1, 2009.
